Hi, ever since I had heart surgery (double CABG) I have found that I really feel the cold. I didn't used to, being from Yorkshire you get used to it. Intolerance to the cold first started just before my op in Feb my when the cold gave me really bad angina. Now I get aches and pains in my chest when it's cold and feel really lathargic. Nothing like before and I don't think it's anything to worry about, guess I'm paranoid it might be angina returning, but would be interested to know if anyone else had same post-op issue.
I am also from Yorkshire Gods own county, The cold weather is affecting me like never before, I don’t know if it is the bypass or meds ie Entresto, Bisoprol.I wear thermals when outside, but cannot stay out long , the cold goes through me and makes me feel terrible.
One answer would be a move to Barbados! I wish 🤭 , what meds are you on Regards Stephen
😂, would love to move to warmer climes! Am taking atorvastatin, aspirin and lisinopril so not too many meds thankfully. Know how you feel about the cold going through you, seems the cold now makes every ache and pain kick in.
My problem is the complete opposite, I am warm all the time, I live in Scotland so would feel our winters! Now husband says switch the heating on where it use to be me saying it. Have said to more than one medic I think when they had me on bypass they did something to my thermostat 😂. Have to sleep with my feet out from the duvet or they feel like they are on fire.
Hi, yes my thermostat also packed up, never felt the cold like I do now, I really need to get out walking, but can’t face it, I currently have heating on, under a fleece blanket, ridiculous! Need someone to pick me up and throw me out of the house 😁, Happy new year to you, and roll on spring 🙂
I never had hot flashes😂 but now sometimes I think I have regressed 20 years and having them now. 😉I wish you a very happy new year, and let’s hope it’s a better one for us all. 😊
Oh no, not fun, we can’t win can we🙂, my cooling system packs up in summer, really one extreme to the other, you must be the only person with your coat undone outside in the cold brrrrrrrrrrr 😂🤗x
I've just wrapped up to the nines and gone out for a walk. Felt much better for getting some post Xmas day exercise but feel shattered now! You're right, we can't win 🙁
Not sure if you remember me but my fiancé had his CABG x3 at about the same time as you...he’s been having the exact same problem with really feeling the cold (he actually seems to feel it more then before his surgery!)
We were expecting this to get better after the surgery so like you are a bit concerned, but we’ve kind of hoped it’s part of the healing and a side effect of the meds. He’s also had a lot more aches and pains since the weather has got colder.

I was worried the extra aches and pains I was feeling was something serious. However, if your fiancé also is feeling them too maybe it is just part of the heeling process. I am a lot fitter than before my op but still have a lot of upper body aches and pains in my chest and back area.
Very quiet but very relaxing Christmas here - hope yours has been good?
Just checked with my fiancé (keep telling him he should make his own account on here!) and he’s been getting aches and pains all over since the colder weather. Like you we’ve been concerned that it’s as a result of poor blood flow (as his blockages before surgery effected his refill into his arms and legs) or the angina coming back, but fingers crossed it’s not as like you say it sounds like your both experiencing similar.
He’s definitely more “able” then before the op but hasn’t made the “fantastic recovery” we were led to expect and still struggles a lot - the cold has definitely made this worse.
One thing I’d add is that I had major surgery a few years ago myself (not heart related) that required me to have several bones broken and reset surgically - the cold makes these “breaks” really sore and the joints near them feel stiff, so wonder if the breaks in your sternums are causing similar pains?

Sorry your fiancé has had so manypost-op issues, I have been lucky and not had too many issues but those I have had (upper body aches and pains) are being reluctant to heal. Sorry to hear you went though what sounds an unpleaset operation. Think you're right though, those bones feel the cold. Mine certainly seem to now.
My husband is always cold when walking now. Wasn’t as bad until second ha but I think it is the increased meds. I had a blanket made for him as a Christmas present with all family photos on it, very lightweight to pop over his knees when he gets in and our son got him an rechargeable hand warmer which he used yesterday and said it was good. He’s also from Yorkshire.
Layers. Lots and lots of layers, starting with thermals or merino wool base layer, wooly shirt , pullover, thick fleece and water/windproof shell, along with a snood to stop the wind whistling down your neck, and a scarf to pull over your face, finished off by a fur lined hat with ear flaps. Skiers wear goggles as well.
Two pairs of gloves, thick and waterproof outers and thin silk/woollen inners.
Craghoppers do some good winter lined trousers, thermals underneath. If it is really cold and windy/wet another pair of waterproof trousers on top.
Good pair of thick socks and thick soled waterproof boots. Fire up your lighter fuelled handwarmer and stick it in your pocket.
Ready to go. You did remember to go to the loo before you started this caper didn't you?
I am from the other side of those hills , Lancashire, and can assure you I always was proud of my ability to take the cold. Post operation my wife says I have the house like a sauna and whenever I am out I have that many layers I look like the Michelin man...
I am on the Bisoprolol fumarate,
Aspirin, Clopidogrel , Lipitor Atorvastatin and Ramipril .. and it is about 22 weeks since the operation.
