Rami[pril and Bisoprol combined leading to excessive tiredness

Hello all... I had a very successful Angioplasty 2 weeks ago at the Wycombe Hospital and would like to thank the team there again. I had one stent fitted on the Circumflex artery which was 85% narrowed. I am now on the usual cocktail of drugs and wonder what other peoples experience of Ramipril and Bisoprol at max dose combines is? I am not having any unpleasant side effects but am feeling very fatigued for most of the day even though I take them at night. Of course the cosmic joke for me is that I suffer from insomnia and have never slept more than 5 hrs in a night in my life.

So is the fatigue common and does it get any better as my body adjusts to the chemical cocktail?

I am also on aspirin, Clopiologrel and Atomeostatin

Hi I had a Cardiac Arrest in 2014 caused by an MI. End result was a stent and a similar mix of meds to you. After 12 months the Clopiologrel was dropped as is usual. Started and low doses of ramipril and bisoprolol which the cardiologist recommended were increased to toleration (i.e increased doses until I had side effects then back off I guess). Saw my GP and my blood pressure and heart rate were very good so increase never happened.

Guess you should be talking with your own GP soon at least to get another prescription. Mention it there and ask if the fatigue might be produced from the dose of meds you are on and if there is anything he or she could do.... after the type of work you have had done its time to embrace this new life, and develop a good working relationship with your GP/Medical Centre !!

Ask if you Bisprolol dose could be reduced. It is a powerful drug. I started on 5mg per day and could cope. They cut to 2.5mg and it was the same. I now have 1,25grms per day in the evening and it's fine.

I came off Ramipril early on as it gave me a cough. If you have a cough, consult your GP. That is a know side effect and in today's covid world none of us want an added worry.

Hi, I am on that mix of max Ramipril and Bisoprol among other drugs and was absolutely exhausted for months but after about 6 months I began to notice I wasn't quite s tired and now about 18 months on I am fine and back to rambling and swimming and all the other things I used to do. The only thing s that I turn into a pumpkin at about 8pm . I am happy to live with that because I generally feel so much better.

I've had the same experience as you, on 10mg bisoprolol and max ramipril which was swapped to 32mg candesartan as I got such an annoying cough but it took about 6-12 months and I got through the sleepy and foggy phase! I'm about 4 years on now! Take care x

If you've only been on Bisoprolol for 2 weeks, it's early days yet. I'm on 2.5mg and I felt very tired (although I suspect that was in part due to my worsening heart condition, as it was pre-stent) and had extremely cold hands to start with, but it wore off after a couple of months. I also suffered from the notorious Ramipril cough, but again, that has become more manageable as time has gone on. You are obviously on a larger dose and maybe that will need to be reduced, but if you can, I would give your body a little time to adjust and see how you get on.

HA and two stents in circumflex. Same cocktail of tablets. I too had problems with them both and ended up having them stopped. One dropped my BP so low I was passing out, the other made me so exhausted I couldn't get out of the chair. We are all different. I didn't need anything to control my BP but ou may so ask your GP to look at the dosage

Hi mrpetethomas, glad your treatment has gone well. taking to your GP sounds a good idea as any side effects are good for them to know about. I was on Ram...& had a terrible cough (so med was changed) & I got very spaced out on Bisop.... so had my dose reduced which has worked a treat. so don't worry just tell the GP - we're all different & I'm sure you'd prefer to have more energy. good luck

Hi, can't answer your question but pleased to read they can do that in Wycombe. I live in Wycombe but had my AVR in Harefield 5 months ago. Hope you get some answers.

Hi mrpetethomas,

Thank you for your post. Glad to know your angioplasty was a success.

Yes, the medications you have listed are usually the ones patients would be discharged home with, following an angioplasty.

Most people do not experience any symptoms while on these drugs, however, fatigue is a very common side effect of Bisoprolol. I would suggest you speak to your GP regarding your symptoms. They can review your medication and most likely reduce the dose of the Bisoprolol, which might in turn resolve your symptoms.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

Best wishes

Barbara
