ICD vulnerable?

I am thinking of buying a telescopic hedge cutter, and wondered whether the motor vibration or electrical field might risk my ICD to fire? Would be grateful to hear the experiences of others, good or bad. Thank you.

Try this site, it's great for ICD's do's and don't! Bear with it as it takes a few mins to load.

Or you could try phoning or e mailing the manufacturer of your ICD.

Thanks Lezzers. I'll try that site.

The motor vibration will not cause any problems. Small electrical motors produce very weak electrical fields is highly unlikely to cause any problem.

I should have said I have an ICD and have never had any problems with any electrical motor.

Thank you CS. That's reassuring. Just bought a lightweight trimmer. Should make the job much easier.

Good luck. When you've finished your hedge, you're welcome to come and clip ours!!!

I can second that! Just had ours done by the firm who cuts the lawns, it’s not just the cutting it’s the clearing up all the bits bags of the stuff! Normally they don’t do it until September so they were early but done for another year.😉

Nice one! We've got a bay tree that must be 30 foot high now!! Hubby had a quad bypass and is still waiting for a hospital appointment to fix a double hernia!

I'm worse than useless up a ladder!!

I'll follow your lead and 'get a man in'!!!! xxxx

Husband had a stroke so put a stop to his hedge cutting and lawn mowing 😩 Sons insisted we got someone in, have had the same firm for 4 years, it’s made such a difference he doesn’t worry and they do it just as he wants!!

Don’t you go climbing ladders! I watch them doing the hedge and think even if John hadn’t had is stroke at 79 there is no way he could get up that high.

Take good care Pauline

I couldn't climb a ladder if I tried!!!!

Fortunately for us, a landscape gardener has moved in over the road from us and I was chatting to him and his wife. He's also a tree surgeon so has offered to trim the bay tree. He's just been round to see it and by the look on his face, he was taken aback!!!

He's kindly offered to charge mates rates!!xxxx

Wow that’s great, having good neighbours is such a bonus we are very lucky to and have lovely people by us. Both our sons live away We are in Scotland one son on the south coast and one in Australia. So for any emergencies I know I could call on them.

So pleased you will be sorted.

Take care x

Thanks Pauline. We have two sons and families in the Peak District so not quite as far as Australia! We have lovely neighbours and live in a little cul de sac so it's almost like a great big family!!

Take good care of yourselves. xxxx

Think yourself lucky. 7 years here now and I know ONE neighbour in passing. NO family near, in fact no family except son who can't get here. Next door never speak. Not unpleasant just very private. I'm 99% housebound so I'm never out the front to see anyone passing and it's a retirement area of bungalows so you'd think people would speak.

As I said we have some good neighbours but the funny thing is the youngest of them who have a young son and both work are the ones who call all the time to make sure we are ok! asking if we need anything. You would think they have such a lot going on in their lives they wouldn’t have the time but they do it so we are very lucky.

Best wishes Pauline

Some people are like that. Shame we don't have any

That's sad Qualipop. We've lived here since we were married 50 years ago and have seen people come and go. There are only 20 houses in our cul de sac so we can't avoid each other if we wanted to!! My dad lived in a warden controlled complex and he found that nobody wanted to socialise. He found life very lonely.

It's good to have friends on this forum though. xxxx

Hi I have an icd and I have not problems using an electric or petrol cutter. However I did read somewhere that chainsaws on the other hand can cause interference I think something to do with how fast the chain rotates can creates a field that can interfere but not a hedge cutter as the motion is only slightly backwards and forwards.
