Hi all, advice please. Second time at dentist after discharge on Sept 13th after having ICF fitted, and this time dental hygienist said couldn’t use some of this electrical cleaning equipment until they received note from consultant saying the electrical equipment wouldn’t disrupt Defib/Pacemaker mechanism - anyone had similar guidance ?

Dentists - ICD rules
I’m a dentist with over 40 years experience both in and out of hospital and that’s the first time I’ve heard that one.
Not had that but you can't use an induction hob, can't go through normal security at airport you must have scan or body frisk. Only specialised MRI scansCheck on the list for your own piece of mind
Good morning, I had to provide a letter from my consultant to the dentist.
Hello my dental hygienist doesn't use the ultra sonic cleaning device on me because it might interfere with my ICD. She does it the old fashioned way. Better to be safe than sorry.
This happened to me so I asked cardiologist secretary to send an email to my dentist and they did but it took some time to happen.
Thanks, called them today so hopefully all sorted soon 🤞
My heart failure nurse gave me an information sheet to give to my dental hygienist that confirmed the dental electronic tools for cleaning don't affect the ICD. I have since had the tools used on me several times and all checks on my ICD have been perfect.
i just recently had a tooth extraction. No reduction of blood thinner, was out in antibiotics, she said they had meds if anything went awry I think with blood. No problem sboutmpacer never mentioned.
I have an ILR fitted. My hygienist wants a doctor's note telling her the equipment won't affect it. I saw her two weeks ago. Not been asked for this before.
Is this something new?

Hi. Before I could let the hygienist use the high power tools they said I needed to ask the pacing clinic if it was ok because of my crt-d device. Pacing clinic said the dentists had to ring them, which they did and was ok to use. 😁
I had a similar question from the hygienist this week. I have a pacemaker. She asked me to check with cardiologist before she could use an ultrasonic cleaner. I did so, but the cardio department said that the hygienist should contact them directly herself so that she can give the specifications of the equipment she plans to use. Will update if I learn of any progress.
Hi I'm a cardiology secretary and we are increasingly being asked this. I have been told that there should be an information leaflet for this to be given out for these situations if this is not given you can ring the Cardiology outpatient department of the hospital and they can send one to you. Alternatively as suggested ring the secretary and they will sort either a letter or leaflet dependant on the situation. Hope that helps.
