My 19 year old granddaughter has a long history of brittle asthma, which meant that up until 2 years ago she spent many weeks on steroids and in HDU each year. She has not had an attack for 2 years. She also has cerebal palsy. Despite this she works in a care home, as a care assistant. Her parents want her to stay at home at present, as they feel she is vulnerable. Her boss says as she is a carer she should not take time off, and die on the job if needs be and not use her 'cured' asthma as an excuse. My question is 'is one ever cured of asthma? Should she not be social isolating for her own safety?
All thoughts on this appreciated.

Well your granddaughter's manager is certainly not medically qualified just certifiable! Nobody is ever cured, she is just very well controlled. Under the government guidelines for Coronavirus - gov.uk/government/publicati... - both asthma and cerebral palsy make her vulnerable. In my honest opinion at some future date she should seek out another position. With her problems she has done well and deserves to work for a decent manager.
