Lisinopril and painkillers

Hi

I have been put on Lisinopril about a week ago as I started having nosebleeds and they found out my BP was 200/109 - I was first put on 5mg and now increased to 10mg - BP is coming down slowly 176/109 before 10mg but since the nosebleeds have stopped I have a slight headache and sore throat/cough and feel like I am coming down with a cold - do you know what the best painkillers to take as it I mentions not to take ibrufen?

Thanks

Julie

Hello and welcome to the forum! I am on Lisinopril and other medication. The main painkiller for colds and headaches is Paracetamol. I also suffer from arthritis and cannot take Ibrufen, etc. The next level for me is Tramadol but it is no good for colds though. Good luck with the BP. At that level it may need a combination therapy.

That’s great many thanks will take some paracetamol - I am similar to you as well as I have arthritis in one of my knees and due in for a a partial knee replacement which has been put on hold for now due to BP - though I have been on naproxon and Ibrufen on and off for a few months so definitely off them now.

I was on Naproxen for a while but no fan as it can damage your stomach. A friend ended up needing stomach surgery after developing a severe reflux problems. I only take Tramadol when required as they can be addictive. Pre heart issues I was heading towards hip replacement now it is conservative management.

Thanks I have one but the doctor mentioned that they aren’t that reliable - I am due to see again after the increase of tablets to see what they are like in case they need to be tweeted again.

On taking painkillers with Lisinopril. Solpadol (effervescent tablets) is given by prescription when taking Lisinopril - Codeine Phospate 30mg - Paracetamol 500mg. Some doctors will prescribe this but some will not due to cost factors. NHS Hospitals will not prescribe this. Taking codeine and paracetamol separately does not work as quickly or as well - this I know from experience.

NHS and Lisinopril: nhs.uk/medicines/lisinopril/

regular use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, diclofenac or indometacin. These may also increase the risk of getting kidney problems. You should avoid taking this type of painkiller while you're taking lisinopril, unless it's recommended by your doctor.
