Microwave food burn

Hi everyone. Just a word of caution about microwave food. I recently had a tooth abscess (ouch ouch ouch). After a week of antibiotics it didn’t really clear. Had a planned extraction which didn’t go very well (split into 3, anaesthetic wore of and adrenaline crisis!). (Insert many many swear words!) I then managed to get an infected socket! More antibiotics! I could only eat soft foods so microwaved some mash potato. Left it stand. Ate from the outside. And the final couple of mouthfuls which I didn’t realise were so hot burned my mouth, throat and oesophagus. I have had a gastric bleed and am having to take large doses of Lansoprazole which I get hideous side effects with but I have to put up with whilst it heals. Couldn’t take my aspirin for a few days but am managing that OK ish now.

My diet is restricted to yogurts, soft white bread rolls, protein drinks and it has been a miserable week!! However feeling much better now just wanted to share my experience so that it may help prevent others going through the same thing. Take care everyone. Zena xxx

Oh my goodness Zena, what an awful experience for you to go through... I'm sending you healing hugs and wishing you a very good recovery and you can enjoy eating your favourite foods again...teeth are a trouble coming and a double trouble going...

Thank you for sharing this and making us aware of what can happen.

Hugs 🤗🤗

Oh my Zena, we need to wrap you in cotton wool, it really hasn't been your year.

Thank you for the warning, I only really use the microwave to heat my porridge and I leave it a good 10 mins to cool down, but will certainly be more cautious from now.

Glad you're feeling better xx

Goodness me ! I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Unfortunately I am having two teeth out on 20/12 as an outpatient. Does that mean I'll have to eat only yoghurt on Christmas Day ? I couldn’t turn down the appointment or I would probably bomb to the bottom of the waiting list again.

It never rains but it pours!

I go sequence dancing with my wife at various places locally. One of our fellow dancers walked in with his fingers and thumb heavily bandaged. Everyone gathered round to find out what happened.

"We got given some nice posh mugs", he said. "Popped them in the microwave to make a quick coffee and then discovered they have metal handles"...

Ouch! Yes brilliant devices but we need to be mindful of their dangers as well. I’ve certainly learned my lesson!! Zena
