Results of echo

Hi everyone,

I had an echocardiogram a few weeks ago and I had a letter through the week saying that it was completely normal! I’m so pleased and relieved, as the cardiologist heard a heart murmur but turns out it’s just because I am slim.

The letter only said it was normal, it didn’t have any results or anything. I don’t really know how echocardiograms work but would you normally get a report, or only if something was amiss? I am just wanting to keep a copy of everything myself on record.

you’re lucky to be told, I’ve had an echocardiogram and a ct scan with no confirmed results! I know from the coordinator I’m to have an angiogram with dye assomething was spotted on my scan, but no one has told me what and no official letter or call from consultant!

I get all results on a telephone call with consultant in December! So just have to wait. Got my rebooked angiogram on 29th and waiting for radiographer to let me know how they’ll deal with my veins next time. My arm from last Tuesday is still very bruised from trying to find a vein.

Hope your telephone appointment goes well x I have my appointment on 21st. Ah I know how that feels well a little bit anyway had blood test yesterday and the blood wouldn't come out so they had to literally pump my arm for it to come out, well hurt and I got a bruise.

So glad you had your echo and everything is fine. Yeah you normally get a massive paragraph explaining there findings. I know everything is ok but are they running any more tests, glad you got your results so quick I had my echo July and still ain't heard nothing lol xx

Yumz you’re in a different category because they already know you have a heart condition if there’s anything more needed to be done for you then a follow up would be on its way.

The poster is told all is normal, if all is normal surely there won’t be any results to give. I might be wrong x

Right ok I just don't like waiting for results which I probably won't understand when I do get the letter anyway, I do have appointment on 21st though so that's something x yeah your probably right.

😀I know you don’t like waiting for results. I use to be like you, now I’m not bothered. I’m over 60😀and like you said most of the time we don’t understand the written statements anyway. Having a quick appointment is much better to discuss these things, even if it’s with the Gp x

I had an angiogram back in 2019 and it was only earlier this year while talking to my GP that I realised that the results were actually sent to her and not me. She then printed out a copy for me. Just a thought, but maybe it is worth asking your GP if they have got the details.

Oh wow I actually feel lucky to have gotten a letter! I will speak to the gp at some point to see if they have the proper results on it. Would be interesting to see what it says!

Yumz no other tests but I’m staying on the cardiologist list and can contact him if anything changes. I got some blood tests done last week so waiting on the results of them still to see if there is any low iron or b12 as it was low earlier in the year. But in general feeling a lot more positive and in control of things for the first time in months. Hopefully it stays that way! X

Hi I think you should make an appointment to see your doctor who should be able to explain more to you and what their next action is if you’re still having health issues. All the best.

From my experience in the past year, letters are very slow at being distributed, if at all. Do you have an online password to your GP service ( eg for ordering repeat prescriptions ) If so you might discover a letter or report sitting there. This happened to me. Last July I had a 999 incident to A&E suspected heart attack. Afterwards I expected at least a report or summary from somebody, but nothing. Six weeks later I routinely logged on to order my repeat prescrip and found a report had been sent to my GP from A&E 6 weeks earlier. Luckily mine wasnt a heart attack but worrying nonetheless. I had no communication whatsoever from my GP.

Excellent news. When I had my echo, the operator told me after wards that I had a hole in my heart and that I'd be referred to the Mutli Disciplinary Team for discussion.

When I had an echocardiogram I was not told the results. For a while the GP said they hadn't recieved any so I finally gave up and assumed there was nothing untoward .Nothing appeared on Patient Access either .Months later when I actually managed to see a GP I again asked and she just said everything was fine!! It would have been good to have this confirmed in writing ages ago as you fear you may have been overlooked.

Ask for a copy of your full echo report & findings from wherever you had it done. The cardiology secretary should be able to send it to you. I always get a copy so that I can compare the results with previous ones

I was told mine was normal only to be told they messed up and it was 2% worse and I need a device fitted.

I would forget it, if you were told your echo was normal then your heart is normal so getting a detailed result will tell you nothing.

I had an echo a few months ago. The report only went to my G P who actually requested it. In future I will ask at the time for a copy to be sent to me. An echo is used to check whether blood is flowing without obstruction. After my heart attack and stents 5 years ago they discovered two more blockages in the LAD that were not quite bad enough to stent. An echo at the time was to check how well blood was getting through. My recent one was to see whether they'd got any worse.
