Travel insurance for USA
We have used flexicover after my OH heart attack and stents. US is dear though. Have also had refund from Staysure but that was Europe.
All Clear worth a try. Remember these are all online brokers so check who the underwriters are, many are based in Europe
I’ve just taken out an annual policy with all clear. It’s world wide and covers my husband (45) me (38)and our 9 yr old daughter. My husband had an aortic valve and aortic root replacement in July. It’s £450 for the year but covers world wide.
We use Insurance With. I couldn't get annual insurance (several issues), but my husband does and that's post coronary bypass.
Try pumping marvellous ! Advice given to me with complex health issues , along with an ICD
Hi unfortunately it appears that the insurance companies are a law to themselves which makes our life much harder. You will have to try quite a few, we went with Avanti, the quotes came down from £1600 for one trip to £680 for the year. Do check the small print as they can be a bit cheeky - good luck
When I first had angina I had a similar problem with USA quotes , but it was easier once I'd had an angiogram and had a proper diagnosis ( my bank accepted my condition)..
However I would definitely not advise anyone to go without full insurance. I was a travel agent and knew of people having to remortgage their house to cover extortionate USA medical bills, running into tens of thousands . It's not worth the risk.
We are off to Canada for three weeks over Christmas, as skiers, our insurance tends to be slightly higher but we always use Staysure, which we found the most competitive. We always take the annual cover as it works out cheaper.
I used Staysure last year when we were going to Europe, but they were expensive for this year when we were going to the Caribbean. I found All Clear which has a lower price but quite a bit more than last year. This is understandable as in an emergency you are flown to the US.
The insurers we have had since we were in our twenties withdrew all cover on me when I was diagnosed with HF. They quite happily covered me with a £75 surcharge for flying to the US - Florida - for a break when undergoing chemo treatment! (That has been booked prior to my diagnosis but actually did me the world of good to get some sun in February.)
I ended up with Holiday Safe this year. Previously I was insured with All Clear but their quote this time shot up for no obvious reason. The quote you get will depend on your individual circumstances - in my experience there is no substitute for phoning round a lot of companies. If your condition is relatively slight like mine, try to find a company who ask meaningful questions. For example, a lot just ask if you can walk 50 yards on the flat (I have no problems walking up 3000 foot mountains). Be aware of the common practice that they quote you a low premium - but then you get a much larger additional premium for full cover of medical conditions. Also, accepting a reasonable excess can bring the cost down - just make sure the excess is affordable, if the worst happens.
