Thought for Today
Lovely words Michael, thank you for posting them you're always so thoughtful.
Michael, that is so lovely.
Im going to write that in my Sons Christmas card. So thoughtful.
Thankyou.
Great thought!
Good one 😇😇😇
Just the words I NEEDED this morning. Thankyou.
Lovely sentiment Michael. Thank you. xx
Really. Is that comment necessary. Very offensive!
Thank you Michael for reminding me today is the most important day. Xx
Hi Zena
How are you?
I hear it's cold in Newcastle!
Only -2 this morning where I live!! But the sun is shining so it’s positively tropical!!!
Lovely to see you back on the forum again. Apart from the ongoing wrist problem, I hope you're keeping well Xx
Thanks. Have had a rough few months. Tooth abscess! Being removed this afternoon! And then hope to get back to serious exercise as have struggled and just done stuff indoors. Anyway it’s good to be back! Big hugs. Xx
Yes thank you Michael for your reminder.
Why do you feel you need to respond in the way you have just done ?
Whilst living in the present with gratitude sometimes feels beyond our abilities it is possible.
It was just a joke, a joke I heard from a nurse many years ago while I was in hospital. all those in my ward thought it funny, so I thought I would share it.
People really need cheering up on this forum, as they did in the mainly cancer ward I was in, however, this was in the days before PC, but this is just a joke.
I agree humour and laughter can be an antidote to many.
Laughter can be the best medicine.
However jokes can back fire and cause offense. Humour needs to be used with care and respect.
There is always that risk with any genre of humour, the most popular comdian of his day, indeed in history, Benny Hill was hounded out by just a few people who didn't like him. This action cost him his life.
I feel Benny Hill's humour would be a ' marmite' moment for many.
His style of humour very offensive to some.
Perhaps reflect on the impact of your particular use of humour on the original poster?
Benny Hill had hundreds of millions of fans worldwide, who got great pleasure from his shows and was hounded out by 6 (six) people. The OP hasn't complained, so just maybe they and others had a theraputic laugh, in the same way my fellow patients did.
I think a couple of people on this forum are looking to do the same with me, mainly because I am honestly objective. If you and another don't like what I write, why do you read it?
I ignor subjects that do not interest me and likewise certain people.
If your refer to the ops comments to me you will find he doesn't appreciate your comments!
The original poster has complained they agreed with this comment by another person.
' Really. Is that comment necessary. Very offensive!'
Humour is a tonic however it does need to be used in a respectful way.
The role of Heart Stars is to try and read all of the threads.
The world changes and things move on. Whilst people enjoy some TV repeats other become very dated. Whilst "Morecambe and Wise" are now becoming dated their humour is fairly timeless. Others like Benny Hill, and Les Dawson, were of their time and in my honest opinion never particularly funny.
The other problem was that this was not put up as a joke thread but more mindfulness to help people appreciate what they have got. With heart disease there can be days when it is difficult to do so.
Benny Hill was not hounded out although he was dropped as his style of humour was becoming outdated. It neither cost him his life. His health had been declining for a few years. Following a "mild" heart attack he was advised to lose weight and have a bypass. He declined and died a few months later.
Thank you Michael, that`s how I get by.It works xx
Wonderful - thanks
As someone who does suffer from diarrhoea from time to time I found the joke funny and was not offended. I think humour is personal and what can seem hilarious one day can seem dull the next depending on one’s mood. I didn’t like Benny Hill’s humour but laughed at how he made my husband laugh. It does you good to laugh.
Thoughtful words which I have copied to a few people.
Can I ask where you found them?
I cannot actually recall when I first saw it as it appears it a dozen or more novels according to Google. To my knowledge it was first attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt. There is a variation said to have been quoted by Albert Einstein but I have no recollection of it when I read about him when I was a physics undergraduate. I imagine it is the invention of T-shirt and mug manufacturers but here goes "Yesterday is relative, tomorrow is subjective but today is electric that's why it is current"!
Lovely thank you
