It is interesting, It's popped up on a few site today, it would have been more informative if the article had specified which BP medication were being used as there are quite a few different medicines for blood pressure

Hi SpiritoftheFloyd. The article has a link to the journal with a pdf link embedded that takes you to the paper. Their research looked at hypertensive patients who took 'one or more BP-lowering medications of the major therapeutic classes (ARB, ACE Inhibitor, CCB, beta-blocker, and /or diuretic)' at bedtime or on wakening. They don't specify further beyond the generic drug.

I saw the report on the news and noted that the research was carried out here in Spain. I had an ICD fitted 3 years ago here in Southern Spain and have taken my BP medication in the evening since the start.

Interesting, I was advised to take them in the morning so that the maximum effect occurred in the day time (because of half life) when you are more likely to experience of stress generated blood pressure highs!

I was given the same information as you so now I am confused do I take my BP tablet in morning or just before bed!!!!

The half life of Bisoprolol is 12 hours (may increase with age) so timing seems unimportant. For other drugs it can be considerably shorter suggesting the morning in line with the comments we received.

Difficult one because if research is saying best to take in evening maybe we all need to look into this a bit more. BHF may look into this too!!

Hi GolfyGirls3. I’m going to raise this with my Doc next time I go but won’t be changing without checking first.

I have always taken my Ramipril at bedtime as advised to do so by Pharmacist when I first started taking it(risk of dizziness).

I also take Amlodipine but in the morning as have found that my blood pressure remains fine through the day as well. My BP isn't especially high but does tend to increase significantly in stressful situations plus I tend to fret about it.

There has been documented evidence previously about benefits of taking anti hypertensive in the evening/at bed time.

Im very interested in this research, hubby was all over it & wanted my to change instantly, bless him.

I take Bisoprolol and have tried morning and night with no significant differences. Just stopped Amlodipine due to gum problems & waiting to see if a replacement is needed. I will definitely be discussing with GP best time for any need meds. Thanks for sharing.
