Blood pressure

Hello just been diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 weeks now , It all started with not feeling well , went to my doctors with headaches for a couple of weeks , I was also diagnosed with low iron deficiency and was put on iron tablets but my blood pressure is still high and headaches still there as well 😞 Has anyone been on the same symptoms as me and what to do next 😞

It would be nice to know what your BP is as the GP doesn't seem too concerned about it.

hello, thanks for responding my blood pressure at the moment is 172/90

Hello :-)

Blood pressure tablets I would say you need to wait about 4 weeks to see if they are slowly taking your BP down

Do you have a BP machine at home if you have take it once or twice a day best when you have not just eaten and are relaxed and if you do not have a BP machine they are good to invest in you do not have to spend a lot a basic one will do

Keep a record of he readings and if in another 2 weeks it is not going down at all contact your Doctor and let them know they may increase the dose or change you to another one but they will get is sorted if needed :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

It is not clear from your original post as to whether you have been prescribed BP lowering meds in addition to the iron tablets, or what follow up your GP has requested. Certainly as far as I am aware anaemia does not have a direct link to hypertension , so without BP lowering meds your anaemia may be treated but not your hypertension. I suggest the same as others suggested and take regular BP readings at the same time each day for a couple of weeks or so preferably seated with a short rest beforehand to allow your body to settle. And then armed with that information you can go back to your GP to decide what needs to be done one way or another about any BP problems. But as far as your anaemia is concerned it takes some time for the body to respond to iron supplements by elevating your iron levels to 'normal' and depending on what the original level was that could be some weeks.

Hello LowerField , thank you for your reply I was prescribed high blood pressure tablets a week ago , but my blood pressure is still high and today bad headache which I have had all week and feeling light headed today as well , Also I talked to 111 this morning and was told I will get a call back but not a word from anyone 😏

Best of luck with 111. My experience is that they are one star out of five for non life threatening conditions but others on here seem to like them. Anyway if you have not heard back by 11.00pm be prepared for a call back sometime overnight or perhaps tomorrow if my experience is anything to go by, and even then they are not really much help.

If your reading of 170/90 is a "white coat" reading then it is not too high but if taken at home then it is rather high.I have have a BP of 200/120 at times but it lasts for a day or 2 then drops by itself to lower normal values.

I would suggest that you take an average reading every morning for a few days and see if it starts to decline and if not then show your GP the readings.

hi Brennan I have been on Bp tabtets for years, took a few changes before the suitable one was found.I think any would take more than a week to lower bp but maybe after about 3 weeks if no change ,see your GP again.also some tablets actually cause the lightheartedness you mention for a while . Good luck

I agree with other posts; you need to keep a check on it maybe once or twice a day for a few weeks. My mother in law was put on t ablets years ago after just one high reading and ended up having blackouts because she didn't have high BP at all. It was just one stressful incident. Her GP should have checked it for a few weeks. It takes a while for tablets to have any effect but you can help by cutting right down on salt and by taking gentle exercise. MIne's high right now but I know it's because of stress. Our boiler broke down, we have no hot water since before Christmas; our electricity goes off several times a week, we never know when so I'm permanently on edge, our telephones broke down and I Know until they are all sorted I can't relax. My normal is 120/65 but it's now 170/ 85. I will keep an eye on it for a few weeks then take the readings to my G P.
