Zantac Recall
Zantac may/may not have been recalled but ranitadine has been withdrawn in my area. Got given cimetadine instead. This drug has many drug interactions with other drugs including my diltiazem. No call from Dr to advise of change. So I've not taken it! I just don't have the energy to argue for a Drs apt, to argue with a Dr. Not sure I have any other options anyway. Can't take omeprazole.
I always ask the pharmacist 's opinion, never the Dr. My Doctor would write omeprazole for me, but the pharmacist said it negated the effect of Clopidogrel, i didn't want that , so she advised Ranitidine, the generic version.
Yes, I spoke to the pharmacist. Like you say I've always found them very knowledgeable and she's much more aware of the catalogue of medication I take! It seems everyone was switched to omeprazole except a couple of us were switched to cimetidine. The pharmacist tried ringing around for more ranitidine but it's been "withdrawn".
Whereabouts are you? We have phoned the GP surgery for advice re ranitidine and the receptionist just said keep taking it! No chance to speak/see GP . Phoned regular pharmacist who said that drug not yet being recalled so keep taking it. Doesn’t appear to be a shortage yet here in West Sussex.
Rang our pharmacy who said no problem with Ranitidine. It's only branded Zantac that's been recalled.
