Dosage and frequency of taking Bisoprolol

Hello - I'm being prescribed 2.5 mg of Bisoprolol at 8AM and then again at 8PM each day. I am having many nights of regular insomnia because of the beta blocker and wondered if there is any reason not to make this one does of 5 mg taken in the morning, or move to taking the two doses earlier in the day? Anyone have any experience? As ever, many thanks!

Bisoprolol has an elimination half-life of 12 - 14 hours so taking once a day is usually deemed adequate. However, where blood pressure is seriously raised or stays high even when asleep it may be given twice daily. You need to check with your GP to find out why you are on this regime. The type of drugs, their doseage, and frequency and timing is unique to each of us.

Do not as Dr Google and forums say but as your GP/cardiologist advise.

Hi, I am also on 5Mg, but take one tablet in the mornings, was on 2.5Mg up until last month,

I haven't noticed any particular changes, Although its difficult to tell when like most people who have had Stents, we seem to be on so many tablets. hope all goes well for you.

That is what I have to do and it was because taking it all at one go was having an adverse effect on me

I would suggest if the doctors have told you to do that then that is what you should do

I'm on 2.5mg in the morning and 2.5mg in the evening to keep my heart rate low after tachycardia came up on my 48hr ECG. It took me a good month to get used to but really the opposite in that it made me feel extremely tired and I was struggling to keep my eyes open.

Your insomnia is more likely down to any anxiety related to your condition, it maybe on an unconscious level, I would not be overly concerned as the more you think about it the more likely it is to keep you awake at night. Dr is normally correct so give it a few weeks and see how you feel.
