I’m unable to get through the online system for my GP to get anyone to give advice re adjusting my Bisoprolol, text messages saying my query has been triaged by a clinician and my meds will be reviewed on 25th March.. even though I’ve said I’m crashing every afternoon and can no longer go on , I need to try something different as the last 2 weeks I’ve lost most of the day to fatigue /low blood pressure. I’ve searched this forum and found some dated posts about switching to taking Bisoprolol at night time , has anyone recently tried this with any success or by splitting their tablet ? I’m only on 1.25 mg plus half a 1.25 mg of Ramipril. I did t take the Bisoprolol in the morning yesterday and had a great day , ride well over 100 miles on my motorbike with a group , lovely day for it.
Grateful if you could share any experiences.

Hi I tried taking at night and then tried splitting it between night and morning. But after speaking to my Doctor my Cardiologist and and expert on the matter at Broadgreen hospital.they all said my body requires it far more while am active during the day than while I am asleep. Hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing. It’s not a great help as taking it during the day seems to be knocking me over 🤦🏼🤣. I’ m not convinced that dropping my BP to 101/63 is helping . It starts off in the morning at 115/75..
I take 2.5mg of Bisoprolol at bedtime as historically have always suffered with a low B.P, but since my O.H.S last June it has been consistently awful. (Yesterday morning was 71/39). Some weeks it seems to be lower than others. At lunch time I now have to take Fludrocortisone to try and raise it, together with Dapagliflozin (which also lowers B.P), to increase my heart’s pumping function.
So my Cardiologist said to me, that I’m better taking it at night - so if my B.P drops at least I’m laying down! Hope you get some answers.
I always had low BP and following CABG X3 last year was in bisoprodol 1. 25 twice daily - morning and evening. I was told that for a period of time I was at increased risk of AF as my heart had been handled, the bisoprodol helps reduce that risk. As time lapsed and heart gets stronger that risk reduces and often it is possible to stop the bisoprodol. Three months after surgery my HR dropped to average 42 BPM resting, and by afternoon I was wiped out and would sleep from 3pm until early evening. Wake/ Eat then sleep again! So GP advised stop evening dose in preference to morning dose. Which I did and felt much better. Since then I have been gradually reducing the 1.25 I was left on and now take a quarter! As I have got fitter and heart stronger I no longer need the bisoprodol to help control heart rate. My average resting HR is about 57 and I am one year post surgery. Buying the pill cutter was best investment as I have been in control of gradual reductions. I built a great relationship with local pharmacist who helped advise me, also cardiology nurses were always helpful even after finishing rehab with them.
I take 10 mg when I first started it I fell asleep most afternoons I guess now I have got used I know longer fall asleep. My blood pressure today is 108/75.
Hi. Yes, I take my Bisoporil at night.I'm on 10mgs per night. It's a hefty dose but I need it. No negative side effects noticed. I take it alongside a vast number of other medications.
Started on 2.5mgs about 3 years ago and it's gradually had to be increased.
Research indicates that the time at which you take antihypertensives makes not difference - regularity of the dose is more important - you might find it helpful to read these (and show them to your doctors??):
this paper's conclusion reads "......... Unless the intention is to specifically lower night-time BP, antihypertensive drugs should be taken at a time of day that is convenient, optimizes adherence, and minimizes undesirable effects."
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻. I’m desperate to sort it out , deffo getting daytime effects so nothing to lose in trying nighttime. Will be keeping an eye on my BP mornings and afternoons to see if there’s a difference for me. I’m also open to the drop being caused by something else , it’s been really noticeable the past 2 weeks , as I’ve said I’ve lost the afternoons into the evening s to bring wipes out. I’m nut accepting it so got to try something and there’s plenty of other medical advice and anecdotes to show some people benefit by a change .. or coming of it. Can’t wait to dig deeper and get it resolved , before I was discharged from hospital last July the consultant said I’d feel brand new in 6 months 🤦🏼🤣🤣, nearly there ..
Hi,I was advised by my Heart Failure Nurse , to change the 5mg Bisoprol dose taken in the morning to take 2.5mg tabs morning and bed time. I had also just started to take the lowest dose of Entresto.
