Bisoprolol and Heart Flutter

Hi, this is the first time I have written and hope someone can give me some sort of idea as to what is going on.

In November last year I had mitral and tricuspid valve repairs. All was going well until about a fortnight post op when overnight my resting heart rate shot up from 60 to 140 bpm.

After a succession of hospital visits I was diagnosed with heart flutter and am currently on 7.5mg Bisoprolol and 250 micrograms Digoxin with a view to having a cardioversion in October

This is where my question really starts.

Having had a resting pulse of around 105 for the past six months, I woke on Friday to a resting heart rate of 70. Do I still have heart flutter which is now controlled by medication or has my heart decided to return to sinus rhythm? Do I phone the Arhythmia nurses first or do I contact my GP? I don’t have another appointment with my Cardiologist before the Cardioversion which I now don’t know if I still need. I really don’t know what to do. I would love to have cured myself and be able to come off Bisoprolol, it’s knocking me out, but clearly don’t want to do anything until I’ve had medical advice.

Of course, this would all happen over a bank holiday weekend.

Hi there why don’t you ring 111 and eventually you will be able to speak to someone who can give you sound advise and also a peace of mind remember there’s someone there 24 hrs why not ring now I would. Take carexxx

Thanks. I had considered 111 but as soon as you mention heart they tend to send you straight to A&E. I don’t feel unwell. But do feel an ecg might be useful. I’m just not sure about what order I should contact people. I imagine I will have a lot of ringing around to do on Monday.

Thanks for your reply. I suspect you’re right. I may start with the arrhythmia nurses at Wythenshawe first thing Tuesday.

Yes, I would have said the same, 111, but yes, they always say go to A&E. An ECG might put your mind at rest. If you have a hospital near you that isn't necessarily overwhelmed, might be worth. Otherwise, yes, phone your nurse as soon as they're open. Tomorrow? Anyway, keep taking the tablets for the moment. They are a drag. Make me so sluggish. But worth staying on them for another 24 hours?

Hi, i've been on Bisoprolol for three weeks now. Had AF for first time and advised irregular heartbeat. Waiting on more scans and really struggling with Bisoprolol i'm so tired and just want to come off it.

You have my sympathy, I used to be on 10mg and would fall asleep after breakfast.

Ye it's really getting me down, not being able to drink is bad enough but not having energy to actually have a social life is even worse. I work and go home and go to bed, and it goes on like that. Feel like i'm dragging myself from day to day. Really getting me downx
