hi guys i need to offload and get some advice please. as some of you know iv had quite a lot going on recently. after having most recent stent done 4 weeks ago. i have been trying to contact rehab team all week to see when i can resume classes. they eventually got back to me today saying that’s them just received surgeons report from stenting. apparently i can’t resume rehab as i’m still having chest pain🤷♀️. iv been walking bout 10 km each day for the last 3 weeks as surgeon said give yourself a week then return to normal exercise. also he wants me to take a beta blocker and ace inhibitor as he thinks lack of meds is responsible for quickly developing blockages. this is where i get really ratty because i know that is going to result in blood pressure dropping again which results in me dropping again. don’t think i can go through all this again. i can’t take beta blockers as iv got asthma and they’ve already tried me on them and i ended up on a nebuliser. the ace inhibitors and calcium channel blockers drop bp too. this vicious circle has been going on now for over a year. i’m over it. what do they expect you to do and it all takes so long. ok rant over
now for advice part. about the drugs mentioned i was told they were anti anginals. the thing is whenever iv landed in hospital with unstable angina iv needed stenting. now if anti anginals stop you having pain then how do you know something’s wrong. probably a silly question to ask some may say but i’m not thinking too straight at the moment and really need some peace of mind. thanks for staying with me. i can’t seem to write small posts sorry. anyone got any experience of any of above as i think i’m sinking at the moment❤️shiona

Oh Shiona, you're having a tough time. That's a valid question bout the anti anginals, I don't know the answer unfortunatly, perhaps Michael will know or milkfairy. But I wasnt aware those meds were anti anginal as such, Kevin takes isobard monitrate for his unstable angina. Are you having chest pain when you walk, are re-hab being over cautious? Keep strong, I'm sure you'll get there eventually. Big hugs for you xx
thanks lezzers i couldn’t take isosorbide. yeah getting pain when walking but not near as bad as previous pain and it’s different pain now with both arms aching but i’m not too concerned about it. i think rehab are running scared to be honest🤣
I get pretty fed up after my 7 year saga too. I am now considered to have Refractory angina...nice.
Beta blockers definitely a no no for me as they set off my vasospasms.
Candestartin even a baby dose and my BP went way way south.
My Cardiologist tried Ivabradine as an alternative to beta blockers .
Who do you have the best relationship with Cardiologist or GP ? Which ever go and see the one you can work with best.
Are you still having any chest pain when you exercise or at rest afterwards?
If so that means you need to discuss with your Cardiologist what's going on.
I personally could not survive without my isosorbide mononitrate and 2 Calcium channel blockers.
Exercise is very important as it improves your endothelium function one of which is to produce nitrates that make your blood vessels relax.
Gunsmoke knows just how I just go on and on about my endothelium!
Anti anginal medication relaxes your blood vessels and hopefully prevents any further chest pain. It won't necessarily mask anything that is out of kilter it's to stop it happening in the first place.
hi i can’t get heart rate above 115 so with that logic it should be ok. iv been doing it for about 18 months now and don’t find it too laborious hence wanting to restart rehab as i think body is just too used to it now
iv also tried ivabradine. was just taken off them 2 was ago when i saw cardiologist. never see the same gp or cardio twice. i get it a bit during exercise but not so much as rest now. i always had unstable angina before never had pains when exercising. james and i decided this new development was bog standard angina. that’s why she said i couldn’t do rehab yet. i’m just going round in circles but as you say i just need to keep doing as i’m told and that’s the frustrating part. i do everything i’m told i think i’ll go for the hug sweetheart
hi never heard of that angina.iv been on ivabradine which they took me off of 2 weeks ago. i never see the same gp or cardiologist twice which i don’t think helps matters. before last stent i only ever got pain while at rest. the new pain is when active and is crushing central chest pain and in both arms. it’s not excruciating just different and it makes me feel odd. james reckons iv got big standard angina now🤣. that’s why i do my walk everyday. just a bit overwhelmed at the moment. i’ll pull my big girl pants on. ❤️
As I understand things it's all a bit of a balancing act. What causes the angina pain is the heart not getting enough oxygen, so it complains. In my case I don't get pain but breathlessness. The purpose of anti angina medication is to open up the blood vessels to allow more blood and oxygen to flow to where it's needed. The problem is that this relaxation of the blood vessels lowers blood pressure. In ideal circumstances the meds will take away the pain but not lower blood pressure too much. We all react differently to the meds so it takes a bit of tweaking to get the best balance for each person.
