beta blocker effect during CT scan. Help

hello everyone

I’m having a CT angiogram in a week.

I feel a bit silly saying this but I’m really nervous about having a beta blocker into the canulla to slow my heartbeat. I’m worried that my heart might beat too slowly and make me feel really bad.

The stupid thing is, because I’m worried my heart is going to heat faster anyway !

I’m also taking beta blockers before I have the test.

Can anyone tell me how they felt after having a beta blocker during the scan

I had the same concerns but everything was absolutely fine. No funny feeling or feeling ill. You will be fine and well taken care of. Its normal to feel concerned but once there you will go with the flow and it will soon be over. To run up to it and worrying is the worst part. Best wishes.

Hi, you won't notice anything re the beta blockers, if anything you will feel unusually relaxed. I'm a very anxious person and when I took the high dose beta blockers before my ct Angiogram I was scared. They actually made me feel calm and I didn't actually need anymore whilst having the scan. If you do you wont feel any different. The only thing you will feel is when they give you the dye contrast in your canula. I don't know of you've had it before but it's like a warm flush going through your body and you'll momentarily feel like you need a wee. All over in a flash and absolutely fine! A CT Angiogram was the only test that showed my problems, I really worthwhile investigation. Good luck x

Dear Clifton11

Try to think about what the investigation can do to help your heart journey, its a fantastic procedure that can tell them so much more than most other tests.

You will be guided throughout it, ask questions , if that is your thing, or just lay there , like me , in sheer wonderment at the highly trained professionals doing their work.

You will be fine and we are here to help

I worried a bit about the beta blockers as I have a slowish heart rate anyway and really felt they were unnecessary, and apart from the tiny dose I took before going I didn't need them. The radiographer called a consultant cardiologist in, he said they weren't needed.The most difficult bit was the dopey woman had me taking a half breath in and holding it, I still don't know why I couldn't hold a full breath as in every other scan I've ever had.

Try not to worry as it's quick and painless.
