Bruising etc

So...bit of an idiot. Got up early to let the chickens out and stupidly grabbed my husbands flip flops instead of my own outdoor shoes. I was rushing to get in and out as I was still half asleep and it was cold (we are not overlooked so no inadvertent flashing!). Anyway, we have 3 steps up to the area where the chickens are. I tripped on last step and went down hard. Smacked my shin, other knee, both wrists and my head hit a concrete stepping stone slab thingy. Huge blobby lump came up on shin and the left hairline area has a painful lump as well. I feel ok, but was a bit concerned straight after in relation to being on the anticoagulants. Google is as overly helpful as always with lots of detailed scholarly articles, just wondered if anyone here had any thoughts/similar stupid experiences whilst on the meds.

I’m reluctant to ring 111 as they’re a bit ambo-happy. I’m currently using the watchful waiting method.

Personally, I've never had an experience like that but I do think you should get yourself checked out at Hospital even if you do feel ok, especially after a bang to the Head. Not trying to scare you but, if it were me, I would definitely go to be on the safe side.

I'd agree with Greenlady13 Sillyfroggy. I'm not on anti-coagulants as have a tissue valve but if I were I'd definitely want peace of mind I mind, especially the head wound. Having said that years ago (pre-AVR) I fell on snow/ice on Christmas Eve and (it transpired) broke my elbow and refused to go to A&E and just suffered through, so what do I know! Hope you're on the mend soon x

I have to agree with the head injury...and concrete 😮 ouchy.

Lots of hugs 💛

Ouch Sillyfroggy. My consultant told me on discharge that any serious bumps should be seen in a&e because I’m on Ticagrelor. I’d rather be safe than sorry. I must admit after being independent all my adult life I find it very difficult seeking help and taking multiple medication now but I’m still here. Take care.

Why not call your local GP's surgery for advice? Many have nursing staff who could take a look at what you have done and advise accordingly. A few months ago I cracked my head causing a 2 inch gash that just poured blood. My wife called our GP surgery. They suggested I went to our local community hospital that has a minor injuries clinic. They saw me straight away, stopped the bleeding and cleaned me up. Head was sore for a few days and I could not wash my hair until the wound had healed but I had peace of mind.

I have just been discharged from hospital after having a crashing fall, head wound and serious serious swelling and pain in leg. The leg pain they think has been caused by being on aspirin for my angina. I also take lots of other meds, I had to stop the aspirin and have been told not to take if for another 2 weeks.

Also not able to weight bear for another week. They kept me in hospital from Saturday until today first mainly for obs for head but then because of leg. However I have to inject myself for 14 days I think its an anti-coagulant.

Your antigoag clinic should have told you that any hits to the head must immediately go to hospital

Thanks all. Yesterday was bank holiday so no GPs open. No apparent Ill effects, and no bruising out yet. I don’t think my area has an anti-coag clinic!

Hi - I am getting regular bruising & swelling from even relatively minor bumps & knocks since starting on Ticegrelor. Some appear without my being aware of having bumped into anything. Simply leaning against a chest of drawers to get something caused a large bruising & a swollen vein in my leg which cardiac nurse said to keep an eye on- it has now gone down a bit but can still feel it. Also have a large swelling caused simply by bumping into a corner of a built in bath. Have not been given the advice mentioned here on when to seek further help re bangs to the head etc. - useful to find that out. Can't wait to stop taking it when reach 12 months post HA.

Ice packs .I pressed on swelling to try and reduce it at time .This helps ,also massage gently helps .Its unfortunately one of setbacks when on anticoagulant.im slowly learning to try not walk into doors or hit handle of doors. I hope this helps and u feel better soon .
