Can anyone give me there opinion on this medication. This was added to my many others 3 weeks ago but since taking it my BP is normal for the first time in a few years. I also take ramipril and bisoprolol all for BP but I’ve been getting cramping and pains either side of my back and today have had no end of diarrhoea also keep feeling sick my doc has asked me to stay on it another week to see if everything calms down. But if I feel like this tomorrow I’m tempted not to take it so what I’m asking is anyone else on indapamide and what is your opinion on this medication

Hi Wilf.

You need to be a little careful recommending people stop taking Their Meds. Anyone who has problems with Meds need to talk through with G P or Heart Nurse or Cardiology Dept who prescribed them.

Hi Kimberly so sorry to hear that you are in hospital. Hopefully they will be able to sort out all of your medication in a controlled and supervised way. I know how miserable it is with such awful side effects but this is an opportunity for you to have investigations and adjustments in a safe environment. Take care. Sending big hugs. Zena xx

Kim, when I was put on Indapamide, I was left feeling so debilitated that I could hardly put one foot in front of the other. Blood tests revealed that the Indapamide had severely reduced my body’s sodium levels and it was stopped. Having said that, I have been trialled on so many medications for my severely raised blood pressure over the last few years with all of them bar one causing horrendous side effects. I am now on 4 different medications, of which Bisoprolol was added recently when I landed in hospital with a heart valve problem. But back to the question of Indapamide, the cramping you mention can be caused by reduced salt levels. And any one if your tablets, or a mixture of them, can cause diarrhoea - another side effect that I experience. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve landed in hospital but worth it if they manage to solve the problem. Good luck!

Thankyou everyone for you reply’s but as you’ve all gathered I was rushed into hospital on Tuesday night after seeing by doctor on Monday only to be told that indapamide has worked and got my blood pressure to a normal reading at last and that it wasn’t a good idea to come of it. Even though I broke down crying saying how I wasn’t functioning I felt completely drugged up I didn’t feel in the real world since starting this tablet my doctor suggested that I maybe depressed (oh really ) well after being blue light into hospital the next day my blood pressure had dropped to 73/24 dehydrated low potassium the wonderful dedication of the nhs staff got me through the night and one lovely nurse took the time to listen to me about my medication and immediately she got the doctor and the hospital pharmacist to come and see me I explained to them how all these tablets were making me feel that I wanted to end my life as I wasn’t living one since starting Indapamide he immediately took me of it he also took me of omeprazole which I was having 2 a day also took me of statin but I have to make sure I have regular cholesterol checks at the moment my cholesterol level is 3 so hopefully this will start to help get me back on track because thankfully someone listened. To all of us out there always remember my cardiac nurses saying if in doubt check it out. But thank you all again for all you reply’s just as I thought my day couldn’t get any better I have now got the Nora virus bug since being in hospital so all medication on hold except for Ticagrelor and aspirin and omg although I feel pretty rough I’ve got a clear head and have realised how zoned out I’ve been. Onwards and upwards From now on if I don’t agree I will demand a second opinion there not playing god with my life

Hi Kimberly. Awful that you went through this but brilliant that you have had the doctor pharmacist and nurse take a team approach to your medication. So pleased that you have been listened to and there is improvement on the horizon. Sending lots of positive thoughts and big hugs. Zena x

Hi

I was prescribed indapamide two weeks ago - first time in 20 years taking medication I have experienced side effects ( low heart beat, feeling anxious) and finally severe skin rash over whole body - emergency visit to doctor who was shocked! Now off them and getting better quite rapidly - to add insult to injury they didn’t even have the desired effect on my blood pressure!
