I have vasospastic angina and have managed with GTN only for the six years since diagnosis. GTN seems to be less effective than it was. The consultant I saw on 30 December believes I may be becoming resistant and prescribed 60mg of slow release Diltiazem. He gave me specific instructions to take it at 9pm every night and to stop taking it immediately if my systolic BP drops below 100.
I was ready to take the first tablet on Friday night but thought it would be a good idea to check my BP before I did so that I would have a baseline. It was 95/57, which is not unusual for me in the evening, so I didn't take a tablet.
I tried again last night and my BP was 105/67. I wasn't sure what to do. I know that Diltiazem is basically a BP medication and I was concerned that if my systolic was already only 105, that it might reduce still further.
I don't know what to do. It's as simple as that. I'm not due to see the consultant again until the end of March and there is no support forthcoming from my GP (another long story). Do I just bite the bullet, take a tablet and see what happens, or do I need to speak to someone now?
Thanks
