Indapamide

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone was on the drug Indapamide? This is diuretic that also helps control blood pressure. I have been on Amlodipine for about a year and it has kept my blood pressure spot on but I am suffering very swollen ankles and feet, a common side effect I am told. The dr therefore has told me to stop and take the Indapamide instead. I was wondering if anyone else had been put in this med and if they noticed any side effects and also if it made a difference to your blood pressure? Thanks in advance 😀

I have only just started taking Indapamide this week, 2.5mg was prescribed, but I always start new meds gradually, so have been taking 1.25 mg and will start 2.5mg next week.

I have noticed a few palpitations and also I have pain and swelling in one foot which started the next day, my joints seem a bit more painful too, I’m going to give it a few weeks and see how I go. I also take 10mg Ramipril which is the highest dose

I had very swollen feet and legs with Amdolipine and also irregular heartbeat, before I knew I had AF, so came off that very quickly.

I think it’s too early to say if it has improved my BP yet, so time will tell!

Hi thanks for responding. I hope I don’t get the pain and swelling in my feet as that’s the reason I am coming off of Amlodipine. Joints being painful I already have from Statins so hopefully that doesn’t get worse. I guess we can all have different reactions to different meds and as you say time will tell. I would be interested to know how you are getting on in a few weeks, maybe we can compare notes? 😀

I must admit that looking back over old posts on here no one has anything good to say about Indapamide in fact some experiences have been awful! I have decided I don’t want to take them and so will contact Gp to ask for an alternative. Problem is mine needs to be a diuretic/blood pressure but I’m sure there must be others out there? I have had adverse reactions to meds in the past and cannot put myself through that again. Am I being silly?

I decided to give it a chance, a lot of people can’t get on with Ramipril , loads of negative posts about it on here, but I have no side effects from it!

You could go what I do and take a half dose for a few days, I have checked my BP today and it’s gone down quite a bit, from 170 to 135systolic.

I was on amlodipine and lhad to come off it due to swollen ankles and feet. I was put on indapamide first which lowered my BP a little and then Ramipril as well, no side effects with either

Thank you for responding, that’s good to know. I had such an awful experience a couple of years back when I changed a med and that has made me worry about this more I think. Happy to hear you were fine! Thank you

I was also on Amlodipine and had severely swollen ankles. My GP couldn't put me on a diuretic as I'm allergic to both loop and thiazide diuretics, so he swapped my BP medication to Losartan. I've been on that now for well over a decade with no issues.

I am on amlodipine. Ramipril and a diuretic called Bendroflumathiazide . Been on that fir a while with no side effects so you could always ask to try that one

I was on bendroflumethiazide which gave me cramps, and my doctor said it wasn’t good anymore for anyone so he took me off it, and I was also on Furosemide, both lower blood pressure and are water tablets also. Furosemide stopped reducing my fluid, so now I’m on Bumetanide, and I seem to have hardly any fluid retention and no problem with it. I’ve never heard of Indapamide. But all those ide tablets lower blood pressure and reduce fluid.

Hi. I’ve been taking Indapamide for over one yr and after suffering terrible side effects from other blood pressure tablets I was so relieved to find a tablet that didn’t make me dizzy or give me swollen ankles etc. I was taking Lorvacs XL 1.5 mg. This brand suited me so well but today I was told the brand the chemist can now supply is called Cardide and they couldn’t get Lorvacs. I think I did try this particular brand before Lorvacs but seems I’m going to have to change brands, many chemists stock Natrilix so I’ll have to do some trial n error , very dissapointed as I have awful side effects with my meds. What brand name are you taking ?

hi I started taking indapamide in February by the consultant who said my ankles were swelling but after taking them for a month my legs and ankles are swollen with pitting on my ankles which I never had before. My GP won’t change the tablets because the consultant prescribed them and he never reply’s to my messages.

Hi, isn’t that strange as I had swollen ankles and feet until I was put on Indapamide and immediately the swelling all vanished. I have noticed recently though that I get dizzy when I lay down and turn over, I thought it was a problem with my ears but I’m wondering if it’s the Indapamide? Can’t take anything without a side effect nowadays!

Hi, I've been on Indapamide for 4 weeks and my BP is great, with no side effects. My GP rang me today though and said I have to stop it as my sodium levels are too low, I asked for a supplement to help but was told they can't do that and to try Doxazosin which I'm not happy about. This will now be my 5th tablet and I really thought I'd found the right one.
