My daughter commented last night on how swollen my ankles are - the ankle'bump' was hardly visible on my right foot. Bother were heavily indented from wearing socks and ankle/ lower leg was swollen.
Is this something I need to get checked? Quickly, or not a rush?

I was prescribed Amlodipine in 2016. No diagnosed heart issues then but as a diabetic the BP target is lower than the general populace. There is also a view that it is better to mix BP meds rather than just a high dose of one. Therefore I was prescribed Amlodipine with Lisinopril. Over a few months my ankles swelled badly and I was given a diuretic. Amlodipine is a Calcium Channel Inhibitor; these are well known for causing odema. The issue continued and eventually the Amlodipine was dropped. A few weeks later I had my first angina attack - it turns out it is an anti-anginal as well. I suggest you discuss dropping it from your medication regime with your GP.
Thanks for the reply. I did have some swelling before all the meds but cardiologist wasn't bothered. He said at the time I didn't have anything wrong with my heart either (Nov 20017) heart rate of 120+ for several years and slightly high BP. Few months later a calcium scoring scan turned into a CT angiogram, and a 75% blockage was found. Still waiting to see if the daily chest pains are classed as angina. Due a stress echo sometime in the near future. Still swollen today so think I'll try to get in to get checked tomorrow
Calcification of the blockages was why I needed bypassing rather than stenting. Do ask about the CCI, it will probably be documented in the patient insert.
I think you should see your GP before it becomes more serious. I don’t know how quickly you can get to see your GP but I think you should do it before the weekend. Alternatively, dial 111 for advice.

I know it’s difficult to know whether or not to tell the receptionist that it’s an emergency and I didn’t want to alarm you by saying so, but mindful of the fact that it is a weekend, it would be wrong to leave it beyond today.
I understand the extra difficulties you have being a career but it is important to the person you care for that you look after yourself too. I hope that you have access to other people who can help to cover for appointments for yourself when you need them.

Actually, had bloods done last week, checking for diabetes, thyroid, coeliac disease, that I can remember. Need to follow that up

AS above - doctor asap. Fluid retention is the end result of something else not working properly. Can be many different causes, so won't speculate as to what, but this heat can only make it worse.
Hi I have same problem and I had bypass operation and using same tablets but I start using different socks short one is which is really help me get through this. Also don't bother see local Gp seems they don't understand problems so try see heart surgeon your local hospital.
I’ve had swollen feet and ankles and been told it’s a valve issue
After a bit of a mix up I finally saw the gp, who thought things needed checking at a&e (was having mild chest pains at the time) so 7 hrs after my gp appointment i was released from hospital after being told i'd not had a heart attack, and they don't know why my ankle (just the one at this point) was swollen. Good news, even if its unexplained
