Hi jacxx
I have to say I have been flushing for over 14 years with what I thought was the longest menopause ever .after three years I was pit on her and it was wonderful for 5 years but was taken of off it with no warning and all the symptoms came back with a vengeance and more as soon as I came off I started getting pains all over my body and felt like an old woman, I went back to the doctors a couple of times and got nothing but the offer of anti depressants which they thought may have helped both the pains and the flushes but I didn't want to take those ...after 4 years of chest pain added in I have been told that I have a 30% blockage in the junction of two main arteries so all the useal pills ...the reason I'm telling you all this is why I was in hospital and hooked up to the heart monitor I noticed that my severe flushes coincide with my chest pains (angina) and the pills don't do anything to help that.
But things that help
Maybe talk to your doctor and see if they can help with the flushing if you or they feel it maybe connected to your heart not hormones ...you never know, (mines not interested in my observations )
Keep a folding fan with you and use it with pride
Stay away from coffee caffeine
Alcohol is a trigger especially red wine
Spicy foods !
You can also look into Sage tablets which are supposed to help with flushes eventually if taken regularly but of course check with your pharmacist if it's ok to use sage with any other meds you may be on .
Not sure if it helps or not
good luck

Hi Jacxx, I am 11 weeks post bypass op and was told prior to the op that I needed to remove HRT from my drugs due to the operation I was to have (really not sure why). So at the moment I am having flushes in the mornings, not too bad as I have probably been going through the menopause for about 7 years. I think you should see your GP if these seem to coincide with palpitations. You don't say how old you are and also what was the risk that the GP said?
Sorry, being male I have no personal experiences to share here other than to work your way through all of the usual hot flush remedies that exist for menopause (my wife tried plenty, none of which seemed to work). The reason the doctors will not give you HRT or will take you off HRT is because it carries an increased risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke - all of the things they are trying to avoid you having. Having said this, I cannot find any quantitative risk information, only that HRT increases risk - so not very helpful in that regard.
