Today I had my 4 week follow-up with the surgical team at Basildon. It went better than even an optimistic me could wish for. ECG normal, chest X-Ray shows everything is knitting together well and lungs are fully inflated, sternum stable, scars healed. I can start driving on Monday, I can stop taking two of the meds I was on (so now down to just 4 meds a day!) and I can stop using those bl**dy compression stockings. And then I was told we're happy to discharge you. For the first time since I found out I had a significant cardiac issue and having the surgery a very short 8-days later, I feel almost euphoric. There is a glass of red wine with my name on it waiting for me this evening
I'm still a work in progress but I now feel I can say 'onwards and upwards' with real optimism.
