It might be a good idea to check this out with your Doctor as cramps can be caused by lots of other things as well.....for instance dehydration can cause these symptoms.

But you will find the stomach symptoms are also noted side affects. Have you tried them with food and/or without food. Perhaps dry bread or a rich tea biscuit rather than something big or fatty and with plenty of water

Hope this helps and you feel better soon

Hi,

I've been on it 4 weeks now and was just telling the hubby last night about the terrible wind I'm having with it. I was told to take one tablet the first week, 2 the second and then finally 3 in the third but never to take more than that as they would cause tummy upset. I have to say, I find they have helped with ulcers, particularly in the mouth.

Hopefully, sticking with the 3 tabs will make you feel more comfortable :-)

Hi, yes I agree with all the above. Guess I was lucky, I can remember the nausea at the start but persevered. Eventually taking 1 tablet a day for over 6 years until my tummy said NO more. I found the side effects ( which did not last ver long ) preferable to the ulcers. I did not have even one flareup for the whole time and continued well for another 3 years after stopping, so well worth it. Unfortunately ulcers slowly returning just now, and go to see my consultant next week to see wher we go from here. Hope this helps.

Good luck

Billi

Ps. Have you tries reducing the dose and building it up slowly if needs be.

The other thing you could try is ginder tea which is particularly good in this cold weather as it warms you up as well as helping nausea and stomach upsets.

i have been on it since december one tablet two times per day; so far i havent noticed any bad side effects; it has kept mouth sores away for me which is a blessing. i do take it with food; even if just a cookie or an apple or apple sauce. hope you feel better soon.

I have taken 1 tablet 2 times per day for 6 years. I have never had any side effects to the colchicine; and mouth sores and skin lesions are mostly kept at bay or by it (smaller, much less often, & usually go away quickly). I have had issues with stomach pain & nausea over the past 3-4 yrs, but no one ever linked it to the colchicine, & that symptom never improved in several few month periods I took a break from colchicine (due to cost, trying to reduce meds, etc) over the past few yrs. My doctors linked the stomach issues with me with some gastric mucosal atrophy, incl. or due to, I believe small lesions in part of my digestive tract.

Whatever the cause of the (milder end) of my tummy upset, I take Zofran (Odanestron - spelling?) for nausea, & 1 40 mg Prilosec 2x/day. With these, any stomach upset is usually fairly manageable for me.

Some people simply can't tolerate colchicine. Consider the many alternatives, perhaps starting with pentoxifylline which acts as a mild-anti-TNFa drug and usually has few side effects. There are lots of treatments for Behcet's depending on your symptoms and tolerance, so it's common for BD patients have to change drugs and doses.

Talk to your doc/specialist..

It was tigerfeet (on here) that suggested spacing out my meds and I asked my doc..she even crushes some of hers and has it with yoghurt to ease taking so many tablets..

just wee tricks but always ask your doc first..
