colchicine hair loss

I've just taken my first tablet of colchicine after being diagnosed on Monday. Obviously I took to Google to find out other side effects, hair loss has been mentioned a few times which is a worry as I already have hair loss due to all the stress of being ill. Has anyone experienced this? What are other side effects I need to be aware of apart from stomach problems? Are there foods I need to avoid to lesson the sickness? Thank you x

hello Charlieblue13

watch out for: Muscle pains. It took years before I felt such pains. Probably too early to think about it.

In principle a more serious than muscles pains: rhabdomyolyse - I did not get this though despite being on colchicine for more than 15 years now.

I have hair loss but not sure if linked to colchicine.

Wishing you all the very best

Just to add that I shared with you only the effect that I have personally experienced. There are other side effects that you can find via internet search.

Best wishes

One more: If you are taking other meds, please do consult your physician about potential negative interactions.

Not exhaustive list, just what I learned recently:

. colchicine if taken while on statins can be fatal.

. Negative /adverse interaction between colchicine and paxlovid (the covid treatment).

I have found Colchicine quite easy to take, so long as I take it after a meal.

Obvious food to avoid is grapefruit - it slows the rate at which colchicine is metabolised, so can cause it to build up in your system, leading to side effects. Otherwise I have not noticed any interaction with other foods.

Hairloss is something I have noticed but I am on a few different meds - not sure if it is related, it could just be aging!

The colchicine is a very effective medication in my case. Really reduced the ulcers. Folliculitis is still present, but also much reduced. It's worth taking if you can manage any side effects.
