Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had suffered a dysentery such as Shigella while abroad and symptoms began appearing much worse since then? I contracted it in Vietnam last year and have been very unwell and recently diagnosed with Behçet's but before then had only mild symptoms were never linked before. Could this have caused it to flare and become much munch worse?

I have not had that but-ive read a few articles linking severe emotional and physical traumas (illness, car accidents etc) to a higher incidence of Behcets. As in, the trauma compromised the balance so to speak, and the BD (which was already there if one has it) erupts full force. I myself think my BD was triggered by years of emotional trauma (I was molested on both sides of my family from 6-13yrs) and then I contracted Mono at 14. I never felt the same after 14. So there's that.

I do hope you are taking pro/prebiotics.

I’ve never had that and am not yet officially diagnosed. I do think that illness can ‘kick start’ autoimmune disorders though. My symptoms started after I had glandular fever at the age of 17.
