Hepatic steatosis

Alongside my BD, I have just been diagnosed with severe hepatic steatosis. I don't suffer from any metabolic syndromes and my nutritionist told me that this could be connected with the vasculitis problem which depends on BD. What do you think about it? Does anyone suffer from liver pathologies?

Hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) can happen in some people who have BD. You might want to share this info from two research studies with your doctors:

(1) "...other hepatobiliary conditions reported to occur in cases of BD are hepatomegaly due to fatty liver or congestion, cirrhosis, acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, cholelithiasis, acute cholecystitis, toxic hepatitis, hepatic abscess, primary biliary cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma." (2) And from another article (researchgate.net/publicatio... ) :

"BD had a significantly higher ratio of MetS, NAFLD [nonalcoholic fatty liver disease] and insulin resistance compared to controls...steatosis-related risk factors should be taken into account in BD patients." [NAFLD frequency in BD patients in this study was 47.8% vs 18.4% in controls].

Drugs like Methotrexate, which is used to treat BD, can cause liver problems. You could see a liver specialist if possible. Good luck.
