Hi Emma,
I couldn't read your post without leaving a reply because cramping in my calves has been a major feature of my Behçets over the last couple of years.
For me, the cramping upon walking was the start of a downward spiral in my mobility ability and I definitely don't want to suggest that the same will be the case for you, as we are all very much individual in our experiences with Behçets, no two of us have identical symptoms it seems.
I've got to say, I had no real answers from the doctors about my cramping, but it was clear that there was a related neurological aspect, because I had (and still do) neurological pains, from pins and needles to stabbing pains, burning, and various nasty sensations.
I guess my only advice really, would be to consider having a nerve conduction study if things get unbearable for you, and that a very very helpful neurological pain killer is gabapentin in my experience.
All the best to you Emma,
Will 🙂
Hello Emma,
Yes, I also have pains in the calves. Plus, pain in the thighs and arms, even when not using them.
The pain in the calves is more pronounced when walking or squatting or climbing stairs.
I would not describe them as cramp pains though. They are really more of muscular pains, with no involuntary stiffening most of the time. Every now and then, I get the cramps in addition to the pains.
In my case, the immunologist sent me for muscle tests ( cannot remember the exact term) - negative.
I have also done spinal tap and brain mri for other reasons, both negative.
No helpful response from me, sorry about that
Best,
M
Hi , yes I get fatigue type cramping in my calves even if I walk up the smallest set or stairs or small hill - very frustrating and feel like I am so old and unfit but know it must be the Bechets.....
I have had this and it was due to a magnesium deficiency. I started eating foods rich in magnesium and stretching a bit more in the am and it went away.
I have been told you can bath in Epsom salts to absorb the magnesium. But this was not a specialist in behcets.x
Thanks guys for all the helpful responses...good to know I'm not alone! I have a hospital appt on Tuesday which has really come at a good time!!i will keep all these responses in mind!
Emma
It would be interesting as to what they would say..please keep us updated!! Good luck
as with others i didnt want to pass this post by without a response, but i dont have any answers on that one. thank God i can cross that off the list of terribleness for my son as at least he is not dealing with that. good luck
