Hi all! I have just taken my first dose of Methotrexate and am a bit concerned about the possible side effects. I started running over a year ago to help me quit smoking and have found that it helps the pain and stiffness in my body that the Behcets causes and helps me feel stronger and healthier. My concern is that this new medication will slow me down or make me too tired to run.
Does anyone else run to help with the Bechets symptoms? If so, what medications are you taking and how has it affected you?
Thanks everyone!

My wife takes Methotrexate for arthritis. She still goes to the gym regularly. She doesn't think it has affected her fitness. However her dose is 15mg per week so I'm not sure if a higher dose would affect your fitness level.
Because the drug requires strict monitoring, regular blood test must be taken. Also within your Dr's practice you may find only certain Dr's are allowed to authorise repeat prescriptios. Which in my wife's case has proved a problem each month. Although to be honest this could just be our Dr's practice.
If you're concerned, I would read the information leaflet that comes with the drug. This will infom you about possible side affects. Alternatively speak to your Dr/Behcet's clinic.
Thank you for your response. Yes, I'm on a fairly low dose as well. 12.5mg to start out. I'm glad to hear that you wife is doing well with it. I was suprised that I woke up this morning feeling ok considering it was my first dose.
I'll go out for my regular Sunday run today and see how it works out for me.
I don't like the idea of having to do blood work every month....it seems like such a hassle but we gotta do what we gotta do and my insurance wouldn't approve a different drug before trying this one.
I'm a few weeks in to my treatment, I have found taking my methotrexate after my evening meal helps with nausea and tiredness, if the nausea gets bad a can of Coke soon settles my stomach. Good luck.
