Just some general advice...

Hi All,

I've had a horrible day today. My husband was rushed to A&E this morning with stroke like symptoms. Following a head CT they've ruled out a major bleed but not a smaller one. He had it with a major, thunderclap style, headache and lots and lots of blurred vision. He was really poorly.

It is so frustrating, as I am sure that many of you will understand, when you get medical people who do not understand neuro-Behçets at all. Not even one iota. They totally dismissed most of the symptoms as "probably the Behçets" and "the headache is probably just a migraine".

Sorry, I've been rambling!

My main question, my husband is feeling totally bloated (and looks it). Does anybody know of anything that can help? Things to avoid etc?

Thanks in advance

Pimms xx

I suffer with terrible bloating. It's awful. I would also like to know how to manage the bloating. Wishing your husband well.

Cut all sugars even fruit from

the diet. Could be a yeast problem as well.

Sugar is incredibly inflammatory. Search online for an anti inflammatory diet and supplements some

probiotics in.

Once I cut sugars, carbs and processed food from my diet I felt better immediately.

Good luck and hope

he feels better soon.

Thank you Rooser!

We've had some advice from the hospital that said the same as you so we've got something to go on. He's still in at the moment but hoping for some answers soon x

also if you're stuck for ideas on what to eat off the bat- I did chicken with lots of herbs like oregano and garlic (anti inflammatory plus delicious) with sauted green peppers and onions. I ate coconut(anti fungal anti inflammatory), steamed shrimp, lots of fish (high in omega 3/6's) spinach with lemon and garlic and mushrooms (high in vit K)

just for some ideas.

Dear Pimms,

First of all, my sincere condolences on having such a horrible and worrying time with your husband's health.

Just as an aside, my late mother was diagnosed with migraine, and it turned out to be acute glaucoma, and because it was not treated immediately, she lost the sight of one eye! Doctors are presented with symptoms which ape another, it must be a nightmare trying to get to the bottom of things. A GP friend of mine has told me that she dreads people with rare diseases to come to her, because she feels so helpless!

Your husband's bloatedness could be caused by inflammation due to Behcet's or a reaction to a drug he may have been given during or just before his CT. If he is still in hospital you must tell the nursing staff of this.

I have also been suffering from bloating, and have found that a gluten free diet has helped no end. I have also cut down on dairy foods, too.

I hope things get better for your husband soon.

All the very best,

Suzanne

Thank you Suzanne. We've taken some advice from the hospital regarding the bloating - seems to stem around gluten and sugars. We've got some things to try when he finally gets home. X

Oh, yes, before my diagnosis, doctors would make something up if they did not know what was wrong with me. Now, I too get the same diagnosis as you-"It is probably the Vasculitis."
