Colchicine

Hi

I've just been prescribed with colchicine. Has anyone had any side effects?

no i have had no side effects but for me it seemed to have taken some time to work but it does.

Hi, I was on colchicine as my main me for over 6 years and it worked really well for me. I never had ulcers whilst on it and even for some years after. Also I only get infrequent mild ulcers now 8 years later.

Having said this there are side effects. Mostly stomach pains, bloating, and constipation and or diarrhoea. Some people just can't tolerate it but I always try to give any meds at least three months to settle in and settle down. I did have to come off it due a small stomach bleed, but nothing serious and no further problems. I think it's the balancing act between symptoms versus side effects and we are all different in our reactions and choices.

I was prescribed the 0.6 BID and it tore my stomach up. Every time food touched my lips i had diarrhea. Everytime i took the medicine, diarrhea. This was for about a month I would say. Joanne Zeis, recommended to start on half a dose and gradually switch over. So i cut down to 0.6 once a day, still had stomach issues but not as bad. I would say it took me about 6 months to not notice a difference.

But the half dose worked for me! And thank god bc this medicine is crazy expensive so I get 2 months now each time i fill my rx. I only "double up " when I feel extra fatigued, wrist pain, or have neck pain (meningitis is a big indicator for me for a flare). I also double up in a flare and it made my last 2 minor flares last about a week-two weeks but I would consider them MILD- compared to episodes before,.

Side effects? Yes. Myopathy. After only a few doses.

Thanks for your comments. It's the first time I've been given any medication. I get ulcers down below all the time! I'm hoping the Meds might control them.
