Stroke like symptom
Hi I had this problem 3 years ago before I had any diagnosis. I can't offer any advice as I was referred to psychiatry and battled for 2 years to even see a rheumatologist and get my diagnosis, but I can offer reassurance that you are not the only one xx
Why were you referred to psychiatry?
Because the scans were clear they felt it was a psychological problem rather than a physical problem! I am still physically suffering from it 3 years on
Hi, I apparently had "hot spots" in my brain which caused stroke like symptoms about a year ago. Have you seen a neurologist?
Lesley
What exactly happened, samhawks?
When my Behcets neurological symptoms first started, they originally thought it was a stroke as I had weakness down one side of my body and the same side of my face was drooping. Also had difficulty pronouncing words and swallowing, which is very much like a stroke.
I later also found out I had a vision loss on the same side of both eyes, which was diagnosed as Homonymous Quadtrantanopia which the Doctors put down to a possible invisible mini stroke in the brain......although there was nothing showing up in the MRI's etc.
It is important to see a neurologist to assess this and get treatment quickly if it's needed. Perhaps you can get in contact with the C.O.E to see if you can be seen urgently. Your G.P could also write to them to ask to be seen urgently.
Hope this helps and you get to the bottom of it soon
Firstly just want to say hope you feel better soon - you have had such a rough time of it lately. I have BD and my sister has BD too - she does use this site but not as often as me and so I thought I would reply in case she doesn't see it! She has had stroke like episodes, her first one was when she was at uni and I really thought that was what had happened. You didn't say what symptoms you had but hers came on after she contracted a flu like illness, she then developed difficulty in walking and was extra clumsy that day, she went to bed and then woke up with a drooped mouth and slurred speech and a one sided weakness. She had a scan that was clear too and got better with rehab. She has had some other similar episodes since and has been seen by the neurologist at the London COE, he feels that they are a type of hemiplegic migraine related to the BD and she is on prophylactic treatment now to prevent them. I'm sure that the COE will help you and I'm sorry you have had such a scary experience but hope you start to feel better soon. X
Hi I had lost control of left side could not talk and my head well I can't explain , I had clumsy arm for a few days , x
Oh dear, that sounds grim and scary. Poor you. I used to get one-sided migraines that made speech very slow and slurred and my left side difficult to control, with numbness, weakness and balance problems. Often these would occur without much of a headache - just a slight one. It would take a couple of weeks for my left side to feel normal again so I could walk without a stick once more. Thankfully, I don't get them since menopause as they were very closely linked to my menstrual cycles. I used to get them every month, and would only just have recovered when BANG another one came along. I don't think I ever lost control completely though - that must have been terrifying for you. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. x
Yes i went through all that a couple months ago. Felt like a stoem in my head with tingling and numbness down my left arm. Mine was all clear too
