Hi, I’ve been on birth control for 3 years, Microgynon 30 to be specific. I was wondering if the pill can hide symptoms of cervical cancer. On the two last weeks of my active pills I experienced light cramping (which I never had with my other packs) and am a little paranoid and so wanted some information for clarity.

Can birth control mask cervical cancer symptoms?
Have you had your HPV vaccine, this can really reduce your liklihood of developing cervical cancer. Or if not are you up to date with your smear test, as this would be the first thing to book if it's not up to date and your concerned about cervical cancer.
The symptoms of cervical cancer can be very similar to other things like endometreosis or period cramps, so cramps themselves wouldn't immediately be assumed to be cancer.
I had cin 3 level abnormal cells detected when I had a smear, which I had removed and the main symptom that I had looking back was some spotting after sex. I had Lletz treatment to remove them and all my subsequent smears have been clear of any abnormal cells.
It's probably best you speak to your doctor and see what advice they would give you and if you're really concerned push for a smear or gynaecology referral.
Thank you so much for your reply :). Yes I believe I am up to date with my HPV vaccine. I remember getting vaccinated at school up to the age of 17, so hopefully that was it. I took your advice and contacted my GP and was able to talk to a doctor on the phone. He reassured me that it was less likely to be that and I have booked a smear test for peace of mind.
