The copper coil can make your periods heavier and longer, and unfortunately more painful. Who recommended a copper coil to you? Because they were wrong and should have recommended the hormonal coil, which can eradicate your period altogether and if it doesn't is more likely to ease your symptoms.

In short, yes this is normal, the copper coil doesn't actually do anything to alleviate the negative symptoms of menstruation and can actually make them worse.

It depends on what you mean by "period pains " . If you mean you are experiencing ongoing pelvic pain at times other than your menses, you should discuss this with the service who inserted the coil .
