Can a copper coil that has not been past expiry be dangerous?

Due to covid and an unsuccessful attempt at removal I still have my expired coil

Just concerned that it may not be safe to have it inside me for too long

It is not unsafe and there are actually some ten year coils. However if it is a five year coil it is no longer proving contraception and you need to be using something else.
