I had a scan following an IUD fitting but only because I was experiencing pelvic pain once it was fitted to check it was in the correct place. I don't think an ultrasound would be offered just to check it's in the correct place as a matter of routine. I was taught to check the strings were in the correct place each month and a nurse always checked the strings if i was due my smear.

no it is not standard. A scan is only done if there are problems.
