Can combination birth control pills make your period longer when you first take it?

I have just started taking cilique contraceptive pills and started it on the first day of my period. I am now on day 7 and still have bright red bleeding, not heavy but still very much there. I usually have 4-5 day periods. I'm worried this is something serious or is this a side effect of birth control pills anyone else has suffered?

I don't think this is something serious as you put it. Are your sexual health tests up to date ? and smears if over 25 years old ? The combined pill you are taking is a combination of oestrogens and progestogens , and peoples bodies react differently to hormones. I would suggest to continue taking the pill, and see if the bleeding settles down. If it persists, you may need to discuss with the pill provider and switch to another type.

Thank you. Yeah all smears normal and up to date. I think I will do like you say and persist for a while and seek help if it does not settle. Thank you for your reply.
