An "adequate" intake for nursing mothers, as noted earlier, is not the 400 IU/d the IOM recommends, but is instead in the range of 5,000-6,000 IU/d, taken daily. If they get that much, they will meet not only their own needs, but their infant's as well. And they will have the satisfaction of knowing that they are supplying all their baby's needs, the natural way.

is that true 5000-6000 iu/d ???

I doubt this is correct. The recommended for an average adult is 800 - 1000 iu/day.

Here is a quote from the UNICEF website : The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) recommend that pregnant and breastfeeding women take a vitamin D supplement of 10 micrograms (or 400 units) daily and that health professionals inform all pregnant and breastfeeding women about the importance of this for their health and the future health of their baby.
