Which contraceptive is best for heavy periods

Unfortunately I have heavy periods, and I'm struggling to find a contraceptive that will help with that as well as prevent pregnancy obviously. I've had the injection, I've had the pill as well as the implant which caused me a lot of problems with my periods being irregular and even heavier. I've heard that the coil is the best but I need to know if anyone has had the same problem and got the coil? Did the coil work or are my periods going to be the exact same??? I know everyone's body is different, but contraceptive works the same in most ways.

Hello, I’ve had the coil and the implant and experienced the same side effects and symptoms on both. I had a constant urge to eat so I gained a lot of wait, I didn’t have consistent periods, they were just here there and everywhere, I’d have a bit of bleeding most days, I’d have chronic back pain, my anxiety was heightened. I really struggled with both, but everyone’s body is different and they take differently to different things. I just felt that it felt the same as when I had my implant and was quick to get it out :(. I’ve heard that the implant and coil are only really good for preventing pregnancy. I was best on the pill and found my periods were somewhat lighter on the pill but unfortunately I can’t remember which one I had. I didn’t have a break in my pill and took it all the time as initially it was just for the sake of lightening my periods

Its impossible unfortunately to predict bleeding patterns with progestogen only methods. However if you main issue is heavy periods , then Mirena/Kyleena/Jaydess might be all good choices for you. You could discuss with GP/reproductive health unit.

I got the Mirena (hormonal) coil to lighten my periods as mine were ridiculously heavy and painful. At first I bled constantly, but only a little bit. Now, I do have 'periods' but they are much lighter and the cramps are manageable with a cup of tea and a paracetamol. Unlike before when I'd not be able to function at all. My friends who have had it longer than me have completely stopped bleeding now.

If you do go ahead with it I would recommend taking a few days off work for after, as it is possible to have really bad cramps for a couple of days (I did).

As you said, every body is different though, so I'd speak to a doctor,!
