I have an 11 week old baby. I had the implant inserted on Thursday last week. Prior to this I did a pregnancy test as I have had a few odd symptoms like no period since giving birth 11 weeks ago, bad heartburn, strange white stretchy mucas and odd pains like I had early pregnancy. Anyway the test did come back negative so maybe it is just my body recovering from giving birth.
Anyway, the implant is very sore and has bruised/bled badly. I've changed the dressing 4 hours ago and it looks like this.
Any help is this normal?

Hi! Congratulations on having your baby! This is perfectly normal, when I had my implant fitted I had quite a lot of bruising (I don’t ever bruise much) I also had a friend of mine who had had so much more bruising than I did when she had hers fitted. It should hopefully start to go away and get better within the next week or so. If there hasn’t been any other improvements whatsoever then perhaps go back to your GP. Because it’s a foreign object being inserted into your body it can take a bit longer to heal and for your body to accept if that makes sense. I found that within the first few days I didn’t have any pain/bruising/blood but around 3/4 after insertion that’s when it bruised/bled and became the most painful. Regarding your concerns about possibly being pregnant, your body can do all sorts of weird and wonderful things after giving birth. All your hormones will be trying to settle down and sometimes your body just changes in general. If you are breast feeding sometimes it’s known that you may not get periods for a while after. However, it’s more than likely just where your body is trying to settle itself down. If you begin to have anymore doubts perhaps request a blood test from the GP just for peace of mind. But it’s honestly not to worry about - I hope this helped xx
