Hi there, I had the copper coil fitted 10 days ago and have been bleeding intermittently since and losing quite big blood clots, I am also in a lot of pain with it. Is this normal?

Copper coil hell
Hello,
Yes, this is very normal with the copper coil. Unfortunately this doesn't really seem to settle and go away. It is known to make things 'worse' not better and why they tend to recommend the Mirena coil (or hormone one). If it becomes unbearable go back to you doctor and see what they recommend and hopefully they can help you.
This happened with me when I had the copper coil I ended up having it removed as I lost that much blood it made me anaemic
I there, I can't help but agree with Daisy1904 that it's pretty common when you get your copper-T instilled. Especially, if it's just been 10 days it's just at the starting stage and though it's not hormonal it can still have some bleeding. However, it's being an IUD there are the possibility of complications like what's indicated by the second poster. The bleeding caused by Copper-T is usually physical injury into the uterus which is why if the bleeding doesn't stop shortly after they have been instilled.... it needs to be eventually removed. I know a case where the copper-T got pretty ugly and was almost threatening to damage the endometrium of the young woman. The T-head of the IUD somehow had some tension created and dug into to inside wall of the Uterus. This caused consistent bleeding but because it was not too much the woman wasn't concerned and waited for it to fade away. During this time the damage was much and if it wasn't identified when it was her fertility could have been compromised with some permanent damage to the endometrium.
