Hi I’m 14 and my periods are really really heavy and quite painful and so I was considering going on the pill, do you think that’s a good idea?

Absolutely, I struggled greatly with dysmenorrhea (severe period pain, a smaller version of endometriosis) and it has literally changed my life for the better. I went from having to use tramadol or high doses of codeine just to be able to function during my period, to happily getting by without any pain meds and just sleeping when i get the chance. The pill isn't just for protecting you from pregnancy, it's also for period pain, to lighten your bleeding, and also used to help out cases of acne. I highly recommend trying it out.

I personally went on the mini pill because I have migraines with aura and let me tell you, it was a LIFESAVER.

I was about your he when I first went on the pill too, and, honestly, going on the pill to make it so you don't suffer as much is ABSOLUTELY a good idea.

Yes is the simple answer. Speak to your GP for an assessment.

I'd like to know first that when exactly your period started... as in puberty. The first couple of years are hard and often goes like the menorrhea symptoms. However, it is not menorrhoea, I have had that same thing for 3-4 years after going on puberty. I had this for 3 years after going on puberty... heavy flow and intense cramping. I just had mefenamic acid for the NSIADs function to control the pain. But later it got okay by itself, not that I never got pain or hevy flow but it wasn't a pattern. You can go on pill there's nothing wrong about it. But first you'll have to consult a gynae as you will have to get prescription I guess for the pills. Though in lots of countries the contraceptive pills are available over the counter but still I'd recommend that you go to gynae. Also, there are several kinds of pills normal and combination... so the doc knows better which one to refer.
