Hi

I have been taking the pill since my boy was born 1year 4 months ago. My periods have been so bad I can bleed for up too 5 weeks then have 1 day off then start again! I have had scans nothing but my doctor has told me to take double for the past 3 months I’m just so worried about this, is it ok? Also for the past 2 weeks I have been feeling so tired and short of breath now and again could that have anything to do with it? Also a headache for 4 days now!

Thanks

Go back to the doctor. You shouldn't be bleeding this much and your tiredness/shortness of breath could be related to your period (lots of women have anaemia like symptoms around their period because they're bleeding and losing iron and stuff!).

5 weeks is not right.

is it the progesterone only pill, or the combined pill ? to be honest I haven't heard of "doubling " either of those to stop unscheduled bleeding. Its strange advice. You need some gynae investigations, and also get your thyroid and full blood count, hormonal profile checked. Your GP needs to step up here to investigate

Progesterone only pill I’m on. I have now stopped doing that because it’s made no difference and I feel I’m giving myself double risks! (My doctor does know as I told her) I had a ultrasound scan and internal and nothing there! I will try request them from my doctor thank you for that! I have a cervix examination soon which they gave me an appointment for 2 days ago! I

the progesterone only pill is very safe and doubling it up wont have increased any risks for you. Im just not sure there's any evidence doing so would stop the bleeding. Getting your smear/cervix checked is important , an sti check if appropriate.

Unscheduled bleeding , including up to daily bleeding , can be a side effect of progestogens - so its possible your pill is the cause of this. If all else ruled out you may need an alternate form of contraception , I would discuss with GP or reproductive health service.
