I have had the copper coil fitted for a week now, when I had it fitted the pain after it being fitted lasted 2 days and started to die down however I still get the pains just not constant but when it is there it’s still the same pain as before which is agony. I have just started bleeding really heavily yesterday and now it’s been a week with it in. Is this normal?

I had the copper coil fitted two weeks ago and I had pain pretty constant for the first couple of days then on and off for a day or two, but no pain since. After about three days I started bleeding and am still bleeding now. It's my first one so I don't really know what's normal and what isn't either, but that's what my experience has been so far.

The coil can be a real pain, especially if it’s your first or a coil change. I have always suffered quite badly with period pains mind...not being able to stand up, pain off the ricktor scale, etc....! But I am now on my second copper coil, and each one has presented painful cramps and sometimes almost like shooting pains down the back of my legs, in particular the first couple of weeks but also for the first few months. This is normal from the medical advise I was given. Your body has just had a foreign object put in there and our bodies like to reject strange things that don’t belong in our bodies. I find now that I get stabbing cramps a few times during the days during the week leading up to my period, and then for the first few days of my period. After that there is no pain!

Every one will react differently but it will take some time for your body to adapt and accept the coil. It’s just figuring things about how to live and work together!!

I would also always recommend seeking medical advise if you are really concerned with the pain or if the bleeding is an abnormally large amount for a lengthend period of time.

Good luck!

P.s. I would also highly recommend trying and using a MoonCup.... what a difference that makes!! No irritation, dryness, pain and mainly fuss free!! Only need to change it once a b be since using a MoonCup. This may help with your bleeding and future pain...
