Taking things too literally?

I get told sometimes that I take things too literally. Like when people are being sarcastic I often miss it and simply reply and am lost when they start looking for a different reaction. It is only when they explain what they were trying to do that I give a short, uninterested reply. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I learnt about literal speech in primary school. It might be useful to look at idioms. It is how I learnt to recognise sarcasm. But sometimes I still slip but that is a part of me. It makes people laugh. I now use sarcasm as my main form of humour

Hi, I relate to this a lot, I always miss sarcasm a lot

Happens to me all the time! It's almost a running joke with my friends now - any time someone makes a sarcastic joke, we all know it'll go "straight over my head" (so to speak, haha)! It can definitely be confusing or frustrating at times. But I find personally that the best thing to do is just let yourself laugh at your own misunderstandings - it at least can take the edge off of the irritation or self-blame.
