On behalf of 'tedjohnson' - Does anyone have a virtually constant mussy head with delayed focussing?

The trouble I suppose is we don't know whether these things are caused by Ataxia or whether it is something totally independent of Ataxia.

The comment on vision rings a bell with me,my GP has referred me to a neurologist for this and other symptoms that have worsened recently ( 10 years since the last brain scan ).

Hi Ted

I think you are absolutely correct in that in that it is very difficult to know if things are caused by having Ataxia or not. As you know Ataxia can cause a wide variety of problems but GENERALLY speaking any problem that happens quickly and suddenly is very unlikely to be due to Ataxia. If concerning, urgent medical attention should be sought, for example a sudden deterioration in eyesight. Any problems associated with ataxia tend to occur gradually.

Certain visual problems can be associated with Ataxia but the onset and progression and deterioration of these is gradual.

However the bottom line in all of this is if you have a new symptom that you are not sure is related to having Ataxia and you are concerned about it, be it with a sudden or gradual onset, make an appointment to discuss it and have it checked out with your GP. It is better to do this, even if the GP tells you it is nothing to be concerned about, than sit at home worrying.

Hi Harry!

I can relate to the 'mussy head' or 'foggy' sensation. I've had this for a number

of years, also eye problems. Because I have other symptoms, I asked for a

Thyroid test, needless to say it came back 'normal', although I'm not satisfied.

I can't accept every 'iffy' symptom/sensation is due to Ataxia, I'm sure I could

feel a lot better. Re focussing, I'm not sure whether you're referring to sight or

thought.

Hi Yes I have problem focussing. I also have nystagmus which causes twitching eyes and therefore can not usually get normal glasses. My present glasses have multi prisms in, which convert my double vision into normal binnocular vision.
