Tell your Doctor your children are misunderstanding your problems. Get them to google Ataxia, find some information on Ataxia UK they can read English?

Hi, yes you are correct, cerebellar ataxia is just that. The cerebellum (small brain) is becoming less dense, it is at the base of the skull and joins the spinal cord to the brain. Hence poor muscle control and lack of coordination.

Yes the small brain being the cerebellum but the shrinkage is often incredibly slow. I'm 82yrs old and MRI shows very little shrinkage since 20+ years ago. The effects can cause many symptoms which vary in individuals. Best explained by neurophysio. I hope this helps. Take care x

🤔Isn’t it surprising…how Cerebellar Atrophy (shrinkage) can be mild…even non-existant, and yet progression can be so debilitating. So much still to discover about Neurological diagnoses. My Atrophy is also mild…and despite Whole Genome Sequencing I’m still diagnosed as being Idiopathic.

Yes still much to discover... especially for idiopathic cerebellar ataxia... numerous tests results are negative. We rely mostly on neurophysio to deal with progression and these groups for sharing experience.

Cerebellar atrophy is what my neurologist told me. Instead of the cerebellum looking full and plump with a defined shape, the edges look like palm fronds

I’ve seen my scans and you’re definitely spot on.
