Does ataxia affect heart rate

My heart rate went up, and I was having episodes of fast heart rate, with chest pain, so the neurologist put me on Diovan, a couple years ago, which lowered my heart rate, and helped a lot. I don’t have heart racing episodes anymore! I have been diagnosed with Cerebellar Ataxia, but I don ‘t know if my ataxia is related to my heart problems. I got the impression that my Dr. thought so, but he was not definitive in telling me that!

If in doubt about your heart see a cardiologist. You may have underlying heart problems. Did your neurologist do a full ECG, probably not?

I have had numerous heart tests, including EKG, and ultrasound, and stress test! Unfortunately, I’ve also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, along with Cerebellar Ataxia, so, the Doctor’s conclusion is that Parkinson’s Disease is affecting my autonomic system, including heart rate, and other autonomic functions. Exertion puts your heart rate up. That is normal for a human, how is this related to ataxia?

I would say yes. Mine goes higher if I am doing anything and when I stand on the spot. Good question.Suzie

Cerebellar Ataxia affects the nervous system, which controls many parts of the body, including the heart! I was a a victim of "Heart Block" which had to do with the nervous system stopping my heart, and not the heart itself doing it. I now must wear a pacemaker to prevent that.
